"FLYSAFE "
3rd - 5th February 1999
Eckberg Castle, Dresden
Germany
The environmental and energetic needs for
the future require the development of technically and economically sophisticated
mobile and stationary energy storage systems as the central issue for a
rational use of energy and the reduction of CO2. An integrated flywheel/motor-generator
system appears to be a feasible mean to meet the ecological and economical
challenges of the future. For a successful application of such high-technology
flywheel energy storage systems, an extraordinary safety level has to be
developed in order to fulfill the high safety standards in public transport
as well as in stationary energy storage applications. The development and
increase of know how concerning system safety and certification requirements
is the critical issue and bottleneck for the flywheel technology.
The objectives of the Flywheel-Safety-Workshop
"FLYSAFE" are to combine knowledge of different researcher and developer
groups and companies, to identify the key technologies for the safety of
high speed energy storage systems and to evaluate the certification requirements,
that are essential for any near to market product.
Therefore, the central issues will be:
- to initiate a world-wide database
containing information on flywheel safety projects, activities and present
applications
- to give an overview of worldwide
safety programs in order to exchange experiences of current world-wide
research projects
- to provide a technical platform,
where the modeling and simulation of rotor burst and containment events
as well as risk analysis methods are discussed
- to examine the political side of
flywheel safety developments concerning legislation and certification procedures
as well as adapted test standards and certifying organizations
The FLYSAFE-Consortium group of
ASPES AG (CH),
BMW AG (DE),
Centrum for Construction and Mechatronics
(NL),
Fiat Research Centre (IT),
Institute of Lightweight Structures and Polymer
Technology (DE)
is pleased to invite all research and development
scientists, engineers, specialists
from Industries and Universities to participate
in the FLYSAFE-Workshop.
